The series is devoted to giving quality artists on both major and independent labels a chance to find and build an audience. In these times of rigid radio formats and quick changing trends within the music industry, many worthwhile artists fall through the cracks unnoticed. Required Listening has been created to present these artists to an audience who might miss them.
Some featured artists in our past shows:
The jangly pop of The Delilahs;
The neo-traditional folk rock of Eddie From Ohio;
Self-proclaimed "regressive country" artists Ranch Romance;
Up-and-coming singer/songwriter Susan Werner.
The series is hosted by WFUV's mid-day "City Folk" DJ, Rita Houston.
With the Required Listening series, we are continuing the more than 21-year-old Bottom Line tradition of bringing quality music to our discerning audience. From our songwriter series, "In Their Own Words; A Bunch of Songwriters Sittin' Around Singin'"(1990-present), to the unsigned band series, "Local Heroes" (1984-1985), The Bottom Line has continuously sought to deliver the finest music available to or customers. With Required listening, we hope to introduce exiting artists to a musically sophisticated audience who wouldn't otherwise have access to them.
